Door County
Aimee wanted to see what Door County is about. For those not from Wisconsin, Door County is the 'thumb' and is a frequent weekend destination for Wisconsinites and Chicagoans.
The active towns are on the Bay side (NW part of the peninsula on Green Bay), while the lake side (SE part of the peninsula on Lake Michigan) is less active and populated.

Left work early to get on the road arriving in Egg Harbor at 8PM at the upscale Alexander's.
The Cherry Barbecued Salmon could have been better if not overwhelmed by the sauce. Aimee loved her Sea Bass and Scallops.
A Door County institution since 1906 in Ephraim. I think their ice cream is average.

Morning run #1 through Sister Bay.
Al Johnson's Swedish Restaurant, a Door County institution since 1954 in Sister Bay. See the goats on the back roof? One is hidden by the light pole.
Aimee went with Swedish Meatballs and Swedish Pancakes. She said both would have been better if they were at least warm, preferably hot. I did Vegetable Hash which was 80% potatoes. From avoiding carbs/starch most of it then went uneaten.
We headed north into the less densely inhabited areas.
At Seaquist her passion for all products cherry drummed up excitement and purchases.
Back in Sister Bay for gelato (olive oil and sea salt) that is made with goat's milk. Very dense and creamy.
Hiking in Peninsula State Park.
The lighthouse at the tip of Peninsula State Park.
Back off of the peninsula headed south to all the orchard markets.
Cherry Festival at Lautenbach's Orchard.
There were samples, cherry slushes, a grill out and cherry pie eating contest.
Between Fish Creek and Egg Harbor we stopped at all the orchards and markets.
Lunch in Fish Creek with the usual healthy choice, in this case brussel sprouts and kale salad.
Ambled around Fish Creek, the largest of the DC towns.
A Door County fish boil at The Old Post Office Restaurant.
No where else in the country does fish boils. Early Scandinavian settlers used what was locally available and could be cooked in large batches.
Locally caught whitefish, onions and potatoes go into the huge kettle.
The boilmaster regales the crowd with the history of fish boils and then he adds the fish.
Finally it is boiled over to get rid of pollutants.
We retire to the snappy dining room to chow down.
Walking around Ephraim.
A little competition...
Good night!

Good morning!
A charming scene of parishioners at the church.
Breakfast at the local institution White Gull Inn.
These are the days to think of in January.
White Gull goes back to 1896 when vacationers arrived by steamboat.
Cherry Stuffed French Toast and Nice Guy Hash.
Drove to the lake side of the peninsula to tour...
...Cana Lighthouse. But the tractor to ferry visitors across the shallow causeway was broken down.
Baileys Harbor on the lake side.
Back to the bay side and heading south stopping at all the markets so Aimee could fill up the cooler. The best cherry donuts at Wood Orchard Market.
She was quite excited. That was Door County Candle and then Renards Cheese south of Sturgeon Bay.
Bay Beach, a Green Bay institution since 1892.
