Driving along Old Man River.

Did you figure out this is Lake City, Minnesota?

Was excited about breakfast here.

  

 

  A place that you know you stand out.

  

  

Chicken Fried Steak. 

   

 Always regretted that the last time I was in Red Wing, it was too early to visit the flagship shoe store of the brand named after the town.

This appealing town is clad in rugged yet visually appealing brick. Rugged and yet visually appealing...sorta like me.

The Red Wing world headquarters is on Main Street.

That flagship shoe store is across the street. Showing great strength, I did not buy anything.

  

Upstairs from the store is a small museum, detailing how the company was started and current footwear is made.

Canby's downtown has seen better days.

   

   

 

Minneota. Yes, that is the town name. Minneota, Minnesota.

  

Wheels Museum, Tracy.

   

 

In 1874, the Ingalls moved from Pepin, Wisconsin to the plains of Minnesota to Walnut Grove.

   

 

In middle school, I read all the Prairie books, her autobiographies and everything in between.

 

It's an enjoyable complex with period buildings detailing the Ingalls' family life.

The dugout is much like the one the Ingalls first lived in a few miles north of town. Imagine a family of 4 living in one of these.

   

The reproduction schoolhouse is like the one Laura taught in when she was 15.

   

 

Covered wagons did 15 miles a day.

 

Currently under renovation, Laura was a waitress here.

   

 

The top floor has an art installation of horses.

    

 So I made a contribution.

 

Been in New Ulm before, don't remember it. Have also been in Ulm, Germany. Remember that.

   

 

A dozen years ago I had the privilege of visiting the Spam Museum in Austin.

   

 

Five years ago they moved to a new location downtown.
