Welcome to Klaipeda, Lithuania, the 3rd largest city.
Their old town is quite compact.
It is anchored by Teatro Aikste, theatre square.
Branching off are pleasant streets.
A few cafes and boutiques.
North, an old fortress is now a park.
Strolling along the Danes.
Then heading to 'downtown'.
Where I found bakery was cheap!
Finding some simple pedestrian walkways.
This was a cemetery from 1820 until the Soviets decided to make it a park in 1975. Unclear about remains...
Walking through a residential neighborhood, these buildings reminded me I was in former U.S.S.R.
Back downtown.
And then crossed the Dane again,
To Old Town.
One girl spoke English, so I queried on the Philadelphia gelato. Sure enough. Cream cheese.
Klaipeda Castle goes back to 1252.
It is now an archeological site and museum.
How it would have looked.
There are 2 very interesting museums.
Though the monk thing is creepy.
500 year old shoes! See, I have so much clothes and shoes so some survive for a museum.
The second part of the museum documents the horrors of the Nazi occupation.
Headed back to the downtown area.
For lunch. Used Google Translate to read the menu.
All of this was like eight bucks.
Time to wrap up in Old Town.
Good bye Lithuania.
