Maryland & Delaware

The Map

Only filled in a few miles on The Map and have been to all these towns three times, yet always exciting to see America. And there may have been good eats.

Landing at BWI at 7:30PM only allowed time for the acclaimed G&M Restaurant for their famous Crab Cakes.  Which were phenomenal.10

In Severna Park, south of Baltimore, The Breakfast Shoppe has been featured on Food Network. We barely made a dent in their famous since 1988 Backpacker Pie packed with eggs, ham, bacon, sausage, peppers, onions, potatoes, tomatoes, spinach, broccoli and cheddar jack.
14

Third time in Annapolis.

16

A favorite town, you feel anchored in history.

20

Ambling up Main.

20

Looking back at the harbor.

22

Repeating the tradition of a self-timer at the Capitol.

24

Have never been inside.

26

House, Senate and Old House Delegates Chamber.
28
The famous depiction of General George Washington resigning as Commander in Chief of the Continental Army as the Revolutionary War was won.

30

And the room it happened in!!!!  December 23rd, 1783.

32

Could wander around this delightful town again all day.  Past trips have also seen the impressive Naval Academy.

34

Until next time.

38

Crossing the Severna River.

40

And then Chesapeake Bay.

42

Repeating Dumser's in Ocean City for Pumpkin Pie. They've been making ice cream here since 1937.

44

Last couple times on Ocean City's boardwalk the weather was a tad nicer.

48

These barrier islands will never cease to amaze me.

50

Lunch time! Who wants crab?!

52

Crab Cake

54

Crab De Gallo

56

Delaware

58

Last couple times in Rehoboth Beach the weather was a tad nicer.

62

Repeating the tradition of a self-timer pic at the Capitol in Dover, where it is called Legislative Hall.

68

Old State House was the Delaware state capitol from 1792 to 1932.

70

 More of Dover.

72

Heading back to Maryland.

74

Back in Baltimore up on 36th.

76

To go to Dangerously Delicious Pies.

Third time in Baltimore, starting at Inner Harbor.

84

October and overcast.

94

Making me wonder.

96

How things would be in summer.

100

Since it was quite dead.  And Baltimore's crime reputation is quite bad.

102

Camden Yards

104

Heading downtown.

106

Being careful.

108

Since last time I was here it was sketchy.  And more so now.

110

Opened in 1782, Lexington Market has moved. Remembering hitting up a lot of bakeries here while  peaking into the emptiness.
112
It's replacement is on the next block and just opening.
118
Faidley's is still in their corner spot in the original Lexington.  They will be moving.

114

And their Crab Cakes are as stellar as remembered. Though twice the price.
115
 Going from downtown.

120

To Camden Yards to Pickles Pub for a Crab Pretzel as featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.
122
Walked past Inner Harbor, to Little Italy.

126
128

Just feeling the ripples of time in Fells Point.

132

Love markets!  Broadway dates to 1786 and this building to 1864.

134

It sat empty for a decade and reopened in 2019.
136
And of course, they have ice cream.

138

Fells Point was the center of shipping.

140

While gentrified, you can still feel anchored in history.

142

Having not had ice cream in forever, got Very Yellow Marshmallow.

144

Always have liked Fells Point.

146

Can you believe I haven't been to Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine since 1999?!

148

This is new. And the film was so good I almost applauded.

150

During the War of 1812, the British attacked Baltimore.

153

Now and then.

154

Francis Scott Key was being held on a British ship, during the battle he struggled to see if those broad stripes and bright stars Were so gallantly streaming.

156

Preserved as it would have looked on that pivotal September 14th, 1814 day.

159

After the War of 1812, this fort was used during the Civil War, WWI, WWII in various capacities and became a national park in 1925.

160

It is the only place to  have the National Shrine designation.

162

The 15 star being replaced with the 50 star.

166

Sleeping and eating.

170

The actual cross brace for that special flag!

  172

Officer's quarters. They had to pay for their own food.

174

Could spend all day here.

178

Locust Point neighborhood is so typical of Baltimore.

180

Who wants more crab!?

182

Crab Cake. I'll take 30 more please.

184

 Maryland Crab Soup

186
